History:
Queen was humanely trapped from a rural cat colony by HLH and brought into care. Having likely lived her entire life outdoors, she came to us fearful and unaccustomed to human touch.
Description:
True to her name, Queen carries herself with quiet dignity. She’s a gentle soul who values peace and routine, and she’s slowly learning that life indoors can be safe and comfortable. Queen shares her foster space with another cat, and the two respectfully coexist — suggesting she could do well with a calm feline companion.
This lovely girl will need a patient, understanding adopter who can offer her a calm, adult-only home and the time she needs to build trust. With consistent care and a gentle presence, Queen has the potential to blossom into a loving companion who finally knows she’s safe, cherished, and loved. ![]()

History:
Bongo was found living in a backyard and had to be carefully trapped over the course of a week due to his skittish nature. Once in foster care, he took some time to relax and adjust, slowly realizing that he was finally safe and, in a calm, loving environment.
Description:
Bongo is a sweet, mellow boy with a gentle, warm-hearted personality. True to his colour he is pretty empty headed and perfectly fine being handled. Now that he’s settled indoors, he loves lounging by the window to watch the world go by and enjoys his mandatory afternoon naps under the bed.
While initially shy, Bongo quickly warms up to gentle attention. Once he feels safe, he shows his affectionate side through cuddles, playful pounces, and joyful interactions with toys. He also happily uses scratchers, making it easy to keep his claws entertained and his home intact.
Bongo is nervous around men, likely due to past experiences, so he would do best in a calm, patient home that allows him to build trust at his own pace. With gentle care and consistency, Bongo has the potential to become a deeply loving and loyal companion to anyone willing to reciprocate.
Bear’s Story:
Bear was found in Southern Alberta roaming a small town with his sister, mom, and extended family. The town was intersected by two busy highways, and sadly, many cats in the area met tragic outcomes trying to cross those roads. Fortunately, Bear and his family were rescued before danger could find them, and he’s now ready to begin his next adventure — finding his forever home!
About Bear:
Hey there! I’m Bear — though the humans here keep calling me Baby Bear
(I don’t think it’s very fitting, because I’m a big boy now!).
I used to live outdoors with my sister Minnie, and while it seemed fun at first, there were a lot of scary things out there — loud cars, big animals, and nowhere cozy to sleep. Life is so much better now! I get delicious meals, comfy beds, and tons of toys to play with.
I’m full of energy and love to play — seriously, I could chase toys for hours! I’m also a very talkative guy who enjoys chatting about my day. Because I’m young and full of beans, I’ll definitely need a feline friend around my age who can keep up with my zoomies and mischief.
If you’re looking for a lively, curious, and affectionate companion who will fill your home with fun and laughter, I’m your guy! ![]()

History: Shadow was found completely alone and dangerously underweight — she was rescued just in time, before a bitter cold snap she likely wouldn’t have survived. Once in care with Hope Lives Here, she began her road to recovery. Because her foster mom has an immunocompromised resident cat, Shadow spent her early weeks isolated — a tough start after already being abandoned. A brief attempt to move her to another foster home didn’t work out, as Shadow displayed signs of stress that made her uncomfortable in that busy environment. She was quickly brought back to her original foster, where she settled again and showed how well she can do in the right environment. Based on that experience, a home without small children would be the best fit for her.
Health & Behaviour: Shadow is currently taking a low dose of fluoxetine (Prozac) to help manage her anxiety, and it’s working well. We believe her quirky behaviours — including occasional moments of nervousness or overstimulation — stem from her traumatic beginnings and long periods of isolation. With the stability of her current foster and the right support, she’s making wonderful progress and showing her playful, affectionate side. Personality: Shadow is a sweet, curious, and independent girl who loves to explore and play. She adores her dollar-store wand toy and benefits from interactive play and lots of things to scratch. She gets along well with the resident cat in her foster home and often snuggles nearby — including curling up beside your legs at bedtime. She would thrive in a home where someone is happy to play with her and understands that patience and consistency will help her continue to flourish. Shadow has already overcome so much. She’s ready for a forever home that will see beyond her cautious start and give her the safety, love, and playtime she truly deserves. Could that be with you?
About Wasabi
Wasabi’s story began in a backyard, where she gave birth to her four kittens under the open sky. A kind neighbour reached out for help, and thanks to Hope Lives Here, this brave little mama and her babies were brought safely inside.
At first, Wasabi was unsure of humans — she was protective, cautious, and didn’t know what it meant to be loved. But day by day, her walls began to melt. With patience and kindness, her foster showed her that people could be safe, that a gentle touch could bring comfort, and that indoor life could be sweet.
Now, this once-spicy feral mama has transformed into a soft-spoken, affectionate princess. She adores being brushed, loves gentle pets, and has the tiniest, sweetest meow that she uses to say hello (or to politely remind you that it’s mealtime
). She purrs often and happily lounges around, enjoying her well-earned peace and quiet.
Wasabi still prefers to keep her paws on the ground — she’s not a fan of being picked up, but she tolerates it for vet visits like the good girl she is. She’s calm, tidy, and content to simply be near her humans.
After months of caring for her babies, Wasabi is ready for a new chapter — one where she finally gets to be the one cared for.
⸻
Wasabi: once a spicy backyard mama, now a sweet, gentle soul looking for a forever home as peaceful as she is.
History:
The story begins with a brave mama cat doing everything she could to keep her little family safe in the unforgiving Alberta weather. Despite the odds, she survived—resilient, resourceful, and determined to protect not just her and her four kittens, but also a young male cat, likely papa, who stayed close by her side.
As the temperatures dropped and snow began to fall, this incredible mama did something extraordinary—she reached out in the only way she could. She began to trust the kind humans who had started feeding her, sensing that help might be just around the corner. These humans noticed her growing family and knew they couldn’t face the cold alone.
That’s when the HLH Rescue team stepped in. With the help of dedicated foster volunteers, the cats were safely and patiently trapped, gently brought indoors, and given the love and care they so desperately needed. It wasn’t easy—these were cats used to surviving, not trusting—but little by little, they learned that warmth, safety, and kindness could be a way of life.
Thanks to one mama cat’s courage and a community that cared, they are now healthy, social, and thriving. Their journey started in survival—but today, they’re ready for something more: a forever home filled with love, play, and soft places to land.
If you’re looking for companions with heart, resilience, and a whole lot of personality, they are waiting for you. ![]()
Some of the family has been adopted and now Papa Kringle, kitten Sierra and kitten Stewart are still patiently waiting their turns.
Description:
Sierra is a tall, elegant girl with stunning tabby markings and the grace of a little wildcat. Whether she’s zipping through the room with her sleek panther-like stride or curled up in a sunbeam, she’s absolutely captivating. Playful, curious, and quietly observant, she brings a quiet charm to every moment.
Still adjusting to the human world, Sierra is taking her time to build trust—but every day she shows us a little more of her heart. With her feline friends, she’s a natural. She integrated beautifully with the resident cats and clearly finds comfort in their company, often choosing to lounge nearby or follow them from room to room.
Sierra is looking for a calm, patient adopter who understands that the best bonds take time. Someone who won’t rush her, but will celebrate each little step she takes toward trusting you. Once she feels safe, she’ll reward you with her quiet loyalty, gentle presence, and maybe even a playful zoom or two.
If you have a peaceful home and a heart big enough to meet her where she is, Sierra might just be your perfect match. ![]()
